Sex, drugs and coercive control... JACKIE!!! is a new musical comedy that follows the young Jacqueline Bouvier as she dreams of becoming the first American Royal. After marrying into the illustrious Kennedy dynasty, Jackie discovers that power and notoriety come with the price of secrecy and silence. With Joe Kennedy pulling the strings, Jackie's sister Lee pulling away and JFK pulling anything that moves, Jackie is left alone to contemplate if life atop the American throne is really worth the family curse that seemingly hangs over it.
JACKIE!!! by Max Alexander-Taylor, Nancy Edwards and Joe McNeice was first performed at the Gilded Balloon Patter House at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe. The show was shortlisted for the 2025 Popcorn Award. .
The Popcorn Writing Award is the only award celebrating new writing at the Edinburgh Fringe. It champions brave and imaginative writing which playfully and artistically questions and addresses current affairs and societal trends and contributes positively to public debate.
JACKIE!!! was also particularly significant for me, as it marked my return to acting after many years of working as a director. I played President John F. Kennedy alongside an incredible company of performers. What a joy!
I'm delighted that JACKIE!!! is going through further development, with a workshop for an expanded version planned for 2026.
